About Us

We are Ferdy (aged 9), Harriet (Mum - age too old to reveal) and Gil (aged 6).

Ferdy started school in September 2017 and Gil in September 2020, and Ferdy and Gil are home educated on Fridays (flexischooling is a combination of formal schooling and home educating). This does not mean an extra weekend day (Ferdy!), but that we will be doing days out, some reading, some writing, some maths and generally things relating to what both boys are learning at school.

We will be keeping a record of our progress (and our mistakes) on this blog. Any comments/ideas gratefully received!

The Sea, The Sea

We live as far as it is possible to live from the sea in the UK. So it was an early rise for us but we managed to be in Lyme Regis by 10:30am.

'Can you see the sea?'
Hans Christian Anderson accompanied us for almost all the way (Ferdy likes his name because it's like Hans Solo), apart from when I negotiated 1/2 an hour for listening to Woman's Hour. Ferdy's favourite character in HCA's Fairy Tales is the Robber Girl in the Snow Queen which I'm quite pleased about as she is feisty, independent and brave (I secretly hope that, if he likes girls, that's the kind of girl he goes for...), rather than Gerda who, despite being tenacious in her hunt for Kai, is a bit of a wimp about him really..

Our PE lesson encompassed stone throwing (aiming at bigger piles of stones) and running away from the waves.

12 divided by 3 = 4

Ferdy's just started doing division at school so we did some division by sharing.

When you go to the sea you have to have ice creams, draw pictures of the sea, and make up poems about the sea and how see and sea are spelt differently.

At Granny's house later, Ferdy read her a whole book.

But what is the best thing about going to Dorset? Going to the seaside? Eating ice creams? Buying copies of the Dandy in a Lyme Regis bookshop? Visiting Granny?

No, I'm afraid it's discovering all your uncle's Star Wars figures in the attic.
